Menopause is a normal, natural event that every woman will experience as they go through life.

Menopause is clinically diagnosed after 12 consecutive months of a woman missing her period, and once a woman goes through menopause, it marks the end of fertility and opens the transition to reassessing one's health status. For most women menopause occurs between age 45 to 55.

For some women, early menopause may occur due to:
Hysterectomy (uterus removed)
Oophorectomy (ovaries removed)
Premature Ovarian Failure (POF)

Symptoms of Perimenopause:
Irregular cycles
Hot flashes
Sleep disturbances-insomnia
Night sweats
Elevated heart rate
Mood changes—irritability, depression, anxiety

+ What age does Menopause occur at?

There are three stages of menopause:

Stage 1 - Perimenopause
Age: late 40's on average
Average length of perimenopause: 3-5 years
What is happening: Your estrogen and hormone levels start to drop, during this time.
Is pregnancy still possible: Yes

Stage 2 - Menopause

Age: average age 51 to 52 years of age
Average length of menopause: 1-3 years
What is happening: Your estrogen and hormone levels remain low.
Is pregnancy still possible: No

Stage 3 - Post Menopause

Age: age 55 onwards
Average length of post menopause: remaining years of a women's life
What is happening: Your estrogen and hormone levels remain low and can increase the risk of heart disease, osteopenia (low bone density), and osteoporosis (bone lose).
Is pregnancy still possible: No

+ What causes Menopause?

Menopause occurs when your ovaries start to produce lower levels of estrogen and other hormones due to age, or in some cases illnesses or treatment can cause menopause. As a result, several physical and emotional symptoms can be experienced, and symptoms vary for every woman.
