Menopause is a normal, natural event that every woman will experience as they go through life.

Menopause is clinically diagnosed after 12 consecutive months of a woman missing her period, and once a woman goes through menopause, it marks the end of fertility and opens the transition to reassessing one's health status. For most women menopause occurs between age 45 to 55.

For some women, early menopause may occur due to:
- Hysterectomy (uterus removed)
- Oophorectomy (ovaries removed)
- Premature Ovarian Failure (POF)

+ What causes Menopause?

Menopause occurs due to a change in estrogen production and levels. As a woman enters into menopause, her estrogen production from her ovaries start to decrease, and her primary production from estrogen is made by the liver and fat (adipose tissue).

A women in menopause estrogen levels are between 50-70% lower, than a healthy women who is not in menopause. The reduced levels of estrogen are mainly responsible for developing symptoms of hot, vaginal dryness & atrophy, osteoporosis, and heart disease.

The main symptoms of hot flashes are due to biochemical imbalance involving estrogen, progesterone, and neurotransmitters that regulate temperature. By addressing underlying symptoms may not only help reduce symptoms of hot flashes but addressing hormonal imbalance may help improve vaginal symptoms of dryness, lower urinary tract infections, reduce painful intercourse and improve bone health (osteoporosis occurs more rapidly due to low estrogen).

Symptoms of Perimenopause: Irregular cycles, hot flashes, sleep disturbances-insomnia, night sweats, elevated heart rate, mood changes—irritability, depression, anxiety, vaginal dryness or discomfort during sexual intercourse and urinary issues.

Symptoms of Menopause: Irregular periods, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems, mood changes, weight gain/slowed metabolism, thinning hair and dry skin.

Symptoms of Postmenopause: Hot flashes, night sweats, elevated heart rate, sleep disturbances-insomnia, mood changes—irritability, depression, anxiety, urinary issues and vaginal dryness—which can lead to discomfort during sexual intercourse.
