What to look for?

For the cold and flu season pick a probiotic that contains: Lactobacillus paracasei 8700:2 and Lactobacillus plantarum HEAL9, with a ratio of 1 to 1.

BREWERS YEAST (Saccharomyces cerevisiae)


Brewers Yeast helps improve the immune function by helping boost the immune system by increasing the salivary immunoglobulins A and natural killer cells which may help your immune system kill viruses. A study done in 2008, showed that individuals taking Brewers Yeast had significant reductions in both the incidence and duration of cold and flu-like symptoms (8).  

When to take and how often to take?

Take one capsule of Brewers Yeast either at breakfast. Remember to look for the Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain. 

What to look for?

Look for Brewers Yeast that is made from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, containing at least 500mg. 


ELDERBERRY (European Elderberry Flower Extract)


Several studies have shown that elderberry juice provides an anti viral effect on our body by helping increase the activity of our immune system (9). Elderberry stimulates your immune system as well as helps fight the flu virus and prevent the virus from replicating in our body (9).

What to look for?

When purchasing Elderberry, make sure you find the following on the label. Select a product that contains European Elderberry which is called Sambucus nigra. Also make sure that the flower extra has a ratio of 4:1 and contains 50-75mg of Sambucus nigra.

When to take and how often?

Take one capsule of Elderberry at breakfast.



Scientific studies have shown that Oscilloccinum is helpful in reducing the duration and severity of flu-like symptoms. There are two studies that reliable sources receiving the highest rating by Cochrane Review. These two studies showed that patients who took Oscillococcinum within 24 hours of developing flu-like symptoms had a 62.9% complete resolution rate of their symptoms compared to 48.5% of the placebo group (10, 11).

What to look for?

Oscillococcinum is the number one over counter flu remedy used in France and is used in more than 60 countries over the last 75 years. Look for the label that has Oscillococcinum written on it. 

When to take Oscilloccinum and how often to take it?

When you start to develop flu-like symptoms, take the entire tube and repeat every 6 hours. If you missed the mark on taking it at the start of the flu symptoms, take one tube daily in the morning and evening for three days. 



NAC is a potent antioxidant (12) and has been used to treat bronchitis and other lung ailments (13, 14). Studies have shown that NAC works in helping reduce the severity and incidence of the flu. What to watch out for and when to get help from your doctor.

  • Confusion or disorientation
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Severe pain in your face or forehead

  • Fever lasting more than three days or a high-grade fever above 39.5º C or 103º F.
    • For infants younger than three months a fever of 37.8º C or 100ºF should get to a doctor. 
  • Symptoms lasting for more than 10 days
  • Bluish skin color or trouble breathing (fast breathing or wheezing)
  • Earache or discharge from the ear
  • Not responding to noise, difficulty waking up, irritability, or seizures
  • Flu-like symptoms that improve, but return with a fever and a worse cough
  • Has underlying chronic health condition (heart disease, diabetes)
