What are uterine fibroids?

1 min read

Fibroids are benign tumours that grow in the uterus. They are the most common type of female reproductive system tumour and are made of connective tissue fibres and smooth muscle cells. Fibroids can vary in size and number, and they can form inside the uterus, on its exterior, or on its supporting tissues.

Even though the exact cause of fibroids is uncertain, estrogen in particular is thought to be a factor in their growth. Estrogen stimulates the uterine lining's growth during the menstrual cycle, and too much of it might encourage the creation of fibroids. Being African-American, being obese, and having a family history of fibroids are all risk factors for developing fibroids.

Fibroids are generally harmless, but they can cause symptoms such as:

  • heavy menstrual bleeding

  • pain

  • pressure on the bladder or rectum

In some cases, fibroids can also cause complications, such as infertility.

What causes fibroids?

lthough the exact reason for fibroids is uncertain, estrogen is thought to be particularly important in their growth.

The smooth muscle cells and fibrous connective tissue of the uterus are thought to be where the fibroids develop. Estrogen is known to promote uterine lining expansion and may potentially play a role in the development of fibroids.

Based on the size, location, and quantity of the fibroids, the symptoms that accompany their development may change. Common symptoms include pressure on the bladder or rectum, pain, and heavy menstrual blood.

A healthy balance of hormones can better control the symptoms of fibroids.

Elevated Estrogen (Estrogen Dominance)

On the cell surface are estrogen receptors that control the effect of estrogen. It has been discovered that uterine fibroids contain more estrogen receptors than healthy uterine tissue does.

Resulting in an increase in estrogen which can promote the development of fibroids. As a result, it appears that lowering oestrogen levels may be a helpful fibroids treatment and a way to lessen their symptoms.

A Delicate Balance: The Dance of Your Hormones

If there is a healthy hormonal balance between estrogen and progesterone, treatment for fibroids can be more effective. Knowing the delicate dance or balance of your hormones may improve the results of your treatment.

Reduced Progesterone (Progesterone Resistance)

Progesterone, on the other hand, helps the body get ready for pregnancy by maintaining the uterine lining. It helps to counteract estrogen's actions and may aid in preventing the development of fibroids.

Progesterone has been found in numerous trials to help reduce the size of fibroids as well as has anti-inflammatory properties, which may help to slow the growth of fibroids.

Progesterone has a well-established involvement in uterine fibroids overall. Improving progesterone levels can help with fibroids.

Inflammation: Supports the growth and progression of fibroids.

It has been established that inflammation contributes to the development and spread of the malignancies. Numerous investigations have discovered that fibroid tissue exhibits inflammation, which may support the development and growth of the condition.

Additionally, research has demonstrated a connection between the production of inflammatory substances such prostaglandins and cytokines and the development of fibroids. These chemicals can produce symptoms including pain and profuse menstrual bleeding as well as the formation of fibroid tissue.

For people with fibroids, reducing inflammation may have a number of advantages. It can first aid in slowing the growth of malignancies. It might be feasible to limit the development of fibroids and avoid difficulties by lowering the production of inflammatory chemicals such cytokines and prostaglandins.

Second, symptom relief can also be achieved by lowering inflammation. Reducing inflammation can help to relieve these symptoms and enhance general quality of life. Inflammation can lead to pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, and pressure on the bladder or rectum.

The presence of inflammation may affect endometrial cell growth and function contributing heavy and irregular menses and infertility. In addition, uterine fibroids may impact the endometrial microbiome composition.

Natural Treatment Options for Uterine Fibroids A Modern Holistic Approach Using Homeopathy & Nutraceuticals

Homeopathy & Natural Therapies for Uterine Fibroids

There are 4 steps we take to help you with uterine fibroids:

Step 1 - Assess lifestyle, emotional & physical

One of the key components of the treatment approach for uterine fibroids is lifestyle changes. This can include making dietary changes and regular exercise can also help improve outcomes with fibroid and improve overall physical and emotional wellbeing.

Emotional stress has been shown to play a role in the development and progression of uterine fibroids. Several studies have shown that stress can affect the growth and progression of the tumors.

Stress has been shown to affect the severity of fibroid symptoms. Women who experienced high levels of stress were more likely to have symptoms, such as heavy menstrual bleeding and pain, compared to women who experienced low levels of stress.

Address stress levels may be beneficial for individuals with fibroids.

Step 2 - Address Clinical Symptoms

When it comes to helping you with your uterine fibroids, the goal is to reduce the progression and size of the tumors, relieve symptoms and reduce complications. A treatment plan will be developed based on the size, location and number of your fibroids, as well as the severity of your symptoms and your overall health.

With the right treatment plan, I know we can achieve relief from your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

My approach uses homeopathic medicine, herbal supplements and nutraceuticals to provide a non-hormonal and natural anti-inflammatory treatment that helps address the pathways that play a major role in the progression of uterine fibroids.

Step 3 - Hormone Balancing (Estrogen & Progesterone)

Estrogen and progesterone both play important roles in the menstrual cycle and the growth of the uterine lining. An imbalance between these hormones can contribute to the development of fibroids, which is why maintaining a balance is so important. By regulating hormone receptors through non-hormonal therapies, we can help your fibroids and reduce symptoms.

Step 4 - Modulate Inflammation

The benefits of modulating inflammation for fibroids are significant. Doing this can help reduce the growth of the tumors, relieve your symptoms, prevent complications and greatly improve your overall quality of life.

At Nielsen Clinic, our treatment approach is all about understanding your specific health concerns, so we can design a customized treatment plan to help you with uterine fibroids. Dr. Vijay Nielsen’s approach is based on over 17 years of clinical experience and published medical research to help women who suffer from uterine fibroids achieve their health goals.

Uterine fibroids can be a frustrating and uncomfortable condition to live with. These benign tumors grow in the uterus and can cause heavy menstrual bleeding, pain, and pressure on the bladder or rectum. While conventional treatments such as medication and surgery can be effective, they can also have side effects.

If you're looking for a natural way to manage your fibroids, there are several natural, safe, effective options to consider. Studies have shown the effectiveness of homeopathy for the treatment of fibroids for reducing the size of fibroids and improving symptoms. The “Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine” found that a combination of homeopathic remedies was effective at reducing the size of fibroids and improving symptoms in some women.

Additionally certain homeopathic medicines, nutraceuticals and herbal supplements may be helpful in treating fibroids as well as regulate hormones and could reduce the growth of tumors.
