FAQs
What can I expect from a session with our psychologist?
The initial session, is focused on gathering information from the client (what brings you in for counseling and how long you have been dealing with the issue, etc.) and also in developing a relationship. Following sessions focus on helping the client gain better understanding of their emotional and behavioral patterns and problem-solving strategies.
How long does psychological treatment take?
Determining the duration of treatment is often difficult to do, as it is based on an individual basis. A number of factors are taken into consideration prior to being able to comment on how long the sessions may take. Factors such as the presenting issue, clients expectations, how the individual would like to approach their situation (coping strategies or in-depth exploration) and how long the individual has been dealing with the problem.
For those who have adjustment problems tend to show improvement in eight to twelve sessions and usually complete treatment within twenty session or less. Moderate problems or intermediate problems usually takes sixteen to thirty sessions and may last a full year. Especially if the problem is ongoing or additional complications arise. For those who have more serious problems (chronic depression, stress responses, personality problems, caring for an ill family member) may often require treatment for one year or longer.
Sessions are scheduled weekly, biweekly or monthly depending on the need of the client.
