Craniosacral Therapy

Cranial Sacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy (CST) was discovered by an American osteopathic physician almost one hundred years ago.  It is a gentle non-invasive, hands-on. CST is based on the understanding that the subtle movements of the cranial bones are due to the response of the cerebrospinal fluid fluctuations within the spinal cord and brain.

Using a light touch of approximately 5 grams (the weight of a nickel) a practitioner is able to release restrictions in any region of the body.  Resulting in improvements in the functioning of the central nervous system, circulation, organ function, emotional well being and over all wellness.

How does it work?

Craniosacral therapy works through focusing in on the production and absorption of cerebrospinal fluid within the skull and the rhythm it creates through out the body.

This rhythm will indicate to a practitioner where restrictions of structure and function are that may impede the natural flow of this fluid, indicating the loss of life giving circulation in a specific area.

It can become a means to correct past injury or prevent the loss of vitality and eventual disease of an area of bone, organ or tissue.  It sources out where the body stores injury and trauma whether it is physical or emotional.

FAQS

How can it help with headaches and dizziness?

CST can evaluate the movement of the bones within the skull and locate restrictions.  Contrary to popular belief the bones of the skull do not fuse into adulthood, instead they actually move.  In fact each bone has a path of movement and rhythm.  By evaluating this movement and mobilizing the bones of the skull a practitioner can recover this natural movement within the skull which quite typically causes headaches, dizziness and vertigo.

How long do the results last?

While everyone is different and results will vary, typically CST starts a process of unraveling layers of tissue trauma.  Unless the stress causing the dysfunction is active and ongoing then the tendency is to see constant improvement.  While older layers may be uncovered it is not common to have old issues return but more likely that different issues become revealed as the body shifts into a more balanced state.

Are there any contradictions for craniosacral therapy?

The only aspect which may be of mild concern is the slight increase of pressure within the craniosacral system from the cerebrospinal fluid.  While this increase is equivalent at most to the added pressure of getting up too quickly we like to err on the side of caution and suggest people with acute stroke (meaning they are still hospitalized) or those with an acute or unstable aneurism to not undergo sessions until they have been given the go ahead by their physician or are no longer acute.  Due to the very light touch of CST it is very safe for people who have broken bones and other acute injuries which makes it a great place to start after an accident has occurred.

Are there any contradictions for Reiki?

No there are no contradictions for energy work such as reiki or chakra balancing.  Energy work is extremely beneficial in any condition and you can feel safe knowing it can do no harm.

How can CST help with emotional issues?

When a physical trauma impacts the body, there is often an emotional element tied in with it.  Therefore when the tissue is released so is the emotion that was stored in the tissue.  These emotions can even have an effect on our personality so it is quite common to have a greater feeling of peace and calmness after the release of such events.  Another way emotion can be released is if an emotional event or ongoing stress is being stored in an area of the body either as an isolated incident or over time.  When the tissue in that area is released so is the emotion that is stored there.  CST can also help the body reprogram the way it deals with stress to minimize the effects over time.
