What is Cupping?

Cupping involves creating a vacuum between the cup, which is glass or plastic and your skin.

In China as well as many European countries, cupping is used to pull toxins from the body. Cupping is great to help reduces pain and relieves sore muscles by increasing the blood flow and oxygenation to the area the cups are placed.

Cupping will leave marks behind; the marks can last up to 3 weeks depending on how dark they are. The color and location of the marks will be used to determine the severity of the inflammation or toxic build up in your system. The sensation involved in cupping is a mild pulling sensation as your skin is pulled into the cup. The cups are left on for 5-10 minutes.

What is Moxibustion?

Moxibustion is a technique that involves warming the skin around an acupuncture point to increase the flow of the energy in that area. Moxibustion was believed to originate in Mongolia, where the winters are chilly and windy.

The warming effect is achieved by burning a herb called Ai Ye in stick or cone form. The skin is not burnt, just warmed. There is a very strong distinctive odor to burning moxa so it is rarely used in North America.

Moxibustion produces a warming effect and the herb Ai Ye has shown to act as an emmenagogue (increases blood circulation). Moxibustion is very effective for several diseases. Conditions such as back pain/stiffness, headaches, migraines, tendonitis, arthritis, digestive disorders and infertility may benefit from Moxibustion.
